Rant after the jump

Mother fucker. I'm trying to find people to live with next year. I'm moving to the downtown campus and all my current roommates are living back on the main campus. I've already gone through two sets of people for various reasons and I just got a message today from someone I was going to look at houses with that she made things work with her old roommates and isnt looking anymore. FUCK! Supply is getting low and I'm running out of patience.

I know the feeling of having a roommate bail, and it fucking sucks. Fortunately, I have some people that I'm planning to live with next year when I move out of my current place, and hopefully nothing goes wrong during that timespan.

Okay, let's think through this logically. Are you familiar with the concept of a press gang? You really only need one person willing to room with you, then the two of you go out and conscript someone else - some "taking the King's coin" trickery device may be necessary. Then, when that person is accustomed to living with the first two of you, you can forcibly conscript more - up to another 2-3 at least.

I suggest you start with a campus subgroup who will find British merchant marine tradition compelling as a reason to room with you after you get them drunk. Maybe SCA?

Dude, I had a group of people one year where we were going for an 8-man suite.

4 jumped ship week of room selections so they could combine with another 4.

3 went to live off-campus.

0 told me. I found out day before room selection.

Ended up in a triple with a couple other misfit friends. Great year but I was pissed at those guys who ditched.

Finding roommates sucks.

In school I didn't get housing, nor did 2 of my friends. Friend A only wanted a place for 6 months and didn't want his name on a lease. So we finally found a tiny place for 1800 with 2 bedrooms and a living room or 3 bedrooms and no living room. So we call him up and say "we found you a room, you're going to be paying a 1/3 of the rent for the year"

Friend: "No only for the 1/3 I'm there"

"We're giving up our living room, you're not on the lease, and you're only there for 6 months."

To this day he's convinced we were trying to screw him over.
